Happy National Bourbon Day!

After releasing our Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Bourbon last week, we thought we’d share with you the best bourbon cocktails we’ve been sampling over the past few Months in preparation for it's release.

Summer Rain - A British Summer Time Hot Toddy.

When we started experimenting with ideas for our Peaky Blinder Bourbon summer cocktails, we must admit, hot drinks didn’t feature highly on the list. However given the recent down pours, perhaps this Hot Bourbon Cocktail could brighten up the wettest of summer evenings.

To make Summer Rain, you’ll need:

  • Boiling water, to fill a mug
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1 Lemon peel or wheel
  • 2 tsp Demerara sugar or brown sugar
  • 7.5 ml Fresh lemon juice
  • 60 ml Peaky Blinder bourbon

Method:

Fill a mug with boiling water and let stand for a minute or two to warm. Meanwhile, stick the cloves into the lemon peel or wheel and set aside. Empty the mug and fill about halfway with fresh boiling water. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve. Add the prepared lemon peel or wheel and stir. Add the lemon juice and Bourbon and stir again.

Strawberry Iced Tea

It may not seem like it right now, but the wet weather will pass. We’ll be enjoying BBQ’s, ice cold drinks and complaining it’s too hot in no time. And what better way is there to cool down than with a Strawberry Iced Tea, Bourbon Style?

For this Bourbon Strawberry Iced Tea You’ll Need:

  • 2 Large fresh strawberries (sliced into quarters)
  • 30 ml Fresh lemon juice
  • 20 ml Plain syrup (2 parts sugar: 1 part water)
  • 60 ml Peaky Blinder bourbon
  • Unsweetened iced tea

Method:

Add the strawberries and lemon juice into a mixing glass and gently muddle. Add the syrup and bourbon, fill the glass with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a glass of your choice over fresh ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint and skewered strawberries.

Cherry Bomb

One of our most popular craft beers is called Hop Bomb - as the name suggests, it has an almost explosive hoppy flavour. However if beer isn’t your thing, that’s cool, we don’t  judge you. Perhaps you’d prefer a Cherry Bomb? This serve is based on Cherry Cola and Campari.

To detonate this Cherry Bomb, you’ll need:

Method:

Open can of Cherry Cola. Combine bourbon, Campari, and lemon juice in a measuring glass or cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and stir or shake well to combine. Strain back into the can or into a glass of your choice.

Bourbon Cold Brew

If you’re partial to an espresso Martini, this cold brew Bourbon cocktail could be for you. It takes the bitterness of chilled filter coffee and lifts it with the sweetness of Bourbon and the smoothness of fresh cream.

For this Bourbon Cold Brew, you’ll Need:

  • 250ml of  chilled filter coffee
  • 60ml Peaky Blinder bourbon
  • 30ml of whipping cream
  • 15ml maple syrup
  • Ground cinnamon

Method:

Simply add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake. Pour the Cold brew over ice and enjoy.

Bac-old Fashioned

We wanted to create the ultimate american cocktail to complement the smooth taste of Peaky Blinder Bourbon. And what’s more american than mixing savoury and sweet? Yes this cocktail does contain real bacon, and yes, it’s incredible. Try it. Love it. Tell your friends.

To make your friends think you’ve lost the plot, you’ll need:

  • ½ A teaspoon of Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • Angostura bitters
  • Orange Peel
  • 60ml Peaky Blinder bourbon
  • 1 Slice of Smoked Bacon

Method:

Fry the Bacon until crispy. Cut the bacon in half. Cut one half into small pieces. Into a cocktail shaker Add the sugar, a few dashes of bitters, water and the small bacon pieces. Shake well. Double strain the liquid. Fill a glass with large ice cubes and gently pour the liquid over the ice. Express the oil of an orange peel over the glass, then drop in. Finally Garnish with the final half of the Bacon (optional)

Straight Up

If bacon based drinks aren’t your thing, perhaps you’d prefer something with a little more edge? This cocktail is so simple to make, you’ll wonder why you’ve never thought of it before. Well its technically not a cocktail, more of a serving suggestion

To Make Bourbon Straight Up you’ll need:

Method:

Pour the Bourbon into the glass and enjoy. Yup, that’s it. Our Peaky Blinder is so smooth, we’re confident that even the biggest Bourbon Cola drowners out there will find it smooth enough to drink Straight up

The Boiler Maker

The Boiler Maker can refer to 2 different types of Cocktail. Either a pint of beer with a side shot of sipping whiskey, or drop the whiskey into the beer, also know as a depth charge. Personally we believe the whiskey should enhance the taste of the beer, and a side shot is the best way to do it. Save the depth charges for cheap spirits and tasteless beer. There's so many combinations for the Boiler Maker from Whiskey Types to Beer Styles. However, with our bourbon we've found it pair's beautifully with our Peaky Blinder Craft Lager.

To Make The Boiler Maker you’ll need:

Method:

Although the Bourbon is presented in a shot glass, there's no need to drink it all in one go. We suggest alternating sips between the Craft Lager the Bourbon. Observe how Citrus notes of American Cascade of the craft lager complements the sweet and spicy qualities of the Bourbon.
